Yoga Nidra, often called “yogic sleep,” is a guided meditation practice that brings you into a deep state of relaxation while maintaining awareness. It helps release tension, reduce stress, and access deeper levels of consciousness through presence in the body. Unlike traditional meditation, where you sit upright, Yoga Nidra is practiced lying down, making it accessible to everyone.
These sessions are offered in-person at CURA Yoga Center, in addition to Zoom for anyone who may prefer to practice from the comfort of their own home.
Please read below for more information on preparing for an at home Yoga Nidra session.
How to Prepare for a Yoga Nidra Session at Home
- Create a Comfortable Space
Find a quiet, cozy spot where you won’t be disturbed. Use soft lighting to set a calming ambiance.
- Use Props for Comfort
Lie on a yoga mat or a soft surface. Place a pillow under your head and a bolster or rolled-up blanket under your knees for support. Cover yourself with a light blanket to stay warm.
- Dress Comfortably
Wear loose, cozy clothing to help your body relax completely.
- Use Headphones (Optional)
If you’re listening to a guided Yoga Nidra recording, headphones can help block out distractions and deepen your experience.
- Set an Intention (Sankalpa)
Before starting, set a positive intention or affirmation. This helps align your subconscious mind with your goals and inner healing.
- Let Go and Surrender
During the session, simply follow the guided instructions, letting go of effort and allowing yourself to drift into deep relaxation.
Yoga Nidra is a powerful tool for restoring balance and inner peace. With regular practice, it can improve sleep, strengthen immunity, enhance creativity, and support emotional well-being.
Join Liliya Sunshine at CURA Yoga Center for a relaxing and restorative Yoga Nidra session on Wednesday evenings at 7pm MT.
